Fruits, vegetables prices witness decline in Sunday bazaars

ISLAMABAD: Prices of fruits and vegetables have registered a decline in the weekly bazaars of the federal capital.

During visit to Sunday Bazaar G-6, a large number of people were seen buying fruits and vegetables in the market due to decrease in the prices.

According to rate list issued by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), the prices of fruits and vegetables have registered significant decrease.

At the same times, certain vendors at different places are selling fruits and vegetables without displaying rate lists at their stalls to overcharge the public.

Muhammad Irfan, a shopper in Sector F-6, alleged that it seems there was no check on the prices of vegetables and fruits, despite decrease, the certain vendors were selling at high rates. He said when he asked a vegetable vendor to show the price list, he refused to do so.

Shoppers have demanded the authorities to take action against the violators. According to the list, this week potato was sold at Rs96 per five Kg, onion was sold at Rs 224 per five kg, tomato was sold at Rs 30 per kg, ladyfinger was sold at Rs 130 per Kg, peas was sold at Rs 28 per kg, shimla mirch was at Rs 50 per kg, green chilli at Rs 56 per kg, turnip was sold at Rs 16 to 18 per kg, radish at Rs 16 per kg, cualiflower and cabbage was sold at Rs 20 per kg, bitter gourd was sold at Rs70 per kg, Brinjal was sold at Rs28 per kg, carrot Rs 20 per kg and cucumber was sold at Rs50 per Kg.

This week, Apple (Kala Kalu) was sold at Rs 110 per kg, Apple (Golden) were sold at Rs 80 per Kg, Apple (ambri) was sold at Rs 60, guava was at Rs 60 per kg, fruiter at Rs 60 per dozen, kino at Rs 80 per dozen, musami were sold at Rs 60 per kg, grapes at Rs 130 per kg and bananas were sold at Rs60 per dozen. This week, chicken was sold at Rs142 per Kg and eggs were sold at Rs96 per dozen.
