ISLAMABAD: In order to rectify the tax collection system, the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has put special emphasis on implementation of its findings by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to alleviate the sufferings of the taxpayers, stated FTO’s Annual Report that was recently presented to President Mamnoon Hussain.

FTO Abdur Rauf Chaudhry stated in the Annual Report 2015 that FTO Secretariat focused on a two-point agenda that is — expeditious disposal of complaints and implementation of its decisions, findings and recommendation by the FBR.

Through the report, the FTO expressed his deep concerns over the sufferings of the taxpayers whether caused by the excesses of the tax authorities or due to some problems in the system.

“For effective dispensation of justice in the area of ‘maladministration’ the FTO is adequately vested with the wide-ranging judicial and administrative powers, including recommending disciplinary action and awarding punishment for contempt etc. against delinquent tax collectors,” the FTO stated.

Maladministration was seen as processes of laws, rules or regulations and acts of omission or commission that are perverse, arbitrary, unjust, oppressive, discriminatory or unreasonable, the report mentioned.
