FTO shows concerns over complaints filed against tax authorities

ISLAMABAD: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has raised the concerns regarding the harassment of the litigator by tax authorities after they submitted the complaints with FTO.

Official sources told Customs Today that the Federal Tax Ombudsman has received several complaints from the taxpayers regarding the harassment by the tax authorities, while the FTO has decided to consult with the FBR to address the matter.

Meanwhile, sources also told that the FTO top management raised the issue with the FBR to look at the matter and proposed measures for systematic improvement of FBR. Sources highlighted that the mandate of FTO office is to ensure prompt and inexpensive redressal of taxpayers’ genuine grievances against maladministration by the tax employees of Federal Board of Revenue and Revenue Division.

It is important to mention here that earlier Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Jahanzeb Khan was also apprised about the FTO’s proposed recommendations for reforming the system including proposals regarding improvement in procedure for inspection of subordinate officers, audit, HR management, accountability, alternate dispute resolution, taxpayers’ bill of rights and streamlining Green Channel facility.
