KABUL : The prices of fuel and Russian gold fell while that of sugar and ghee slightly increased during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.
Abdul Hadi, a fuel station worker in Wazirabad locality of Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of one litre of petrol dipped from 39 afghanis to 38 afghanis and the same quantity of diesel from 32 afghanis to 31 afghanis.
He linked the decrease in fuel prices to international market trends.
However, the price of liquefied gas remained unchanged. Mohammad Sharif, a dealer in Taimani locality, said gas prices stayed stable at 45afs per kg during the outgoing week.
In food items, the prices of only sugar and ghee slightly increased. Food Traders Union head, Fazal Rahman, said the price of 49 kilograms of Pakistani sugar increased from 2,250afs to 2,260afs and 16 litre of Shaista ghee from 1,050afs to 1,060afs.
However, he said a 49 kilograms sack of Kazakh flour cost 1,280afs and 25kg of Pakistani rice 1,600afs, the same prices as of last week’s.
A shopkeeper in Kabul Market, Haji Rahmatullah, sold a kilogram of African black for 260afs and the same amount of Madina green tea for 240afs.
But wholesale prices varied from retail rates in parts of the city. A retailer in Dahna Bagh area, Ahmad Navid, sold a 24-kg sack of rice for 1,800afs and a 50-kg bag of Kazakh flour for 1,350afs.
Similarly, he sold a 49-kg bag of sugar for 2,350afs, a 16-kg tin of Shaista ghee for 1,130afs, a kilo of black tea for 280afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea for 260afs.
Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in Timor Shahi area, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of one gram of Arabian gold cost 2,250afs while the price of the same quantity of the Russian variety decreased from 1,900afs to 1,850afs.
He said the price of Russian gold declined because of low demand and high imports.
According to Sadaqat Money Services in Sara-i-Shahzada, one US dollar accounted for 69.05afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 650afs against last week’s 68.90afs and 649afs respectively.
