Funds shortage: Punjab govt dumps tractor scheme

LAHORE: The Punjab government has abandoned the subsidised tractor scheme mainly due to funds shortage.

However, the industry has asked the provincial government to officially announce the abandoning of the scheme. Punjab Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Pasha also confirmed the ‘dumping’ of the green tractor scheme during a meeting with a Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) delegation.

PAAPAM Chairman Mumshad Ali said that the changes to subsidy per tractor, and number of tractors to be subsidised are common and have resulted in severely affecting the supply chain in the past also. He also added that as part of the tractor supply chain they are never taken into confidence before the launch of such schemes. There is still room to improve the model of the scheme to match supply and demand.
