WASHINGTON: After development along slightly negative lines in January, German furniture exports as well as furniture imports to Germany increased again slightly in February. According to figures compiled by the VDM on the basis of export statistics of the Federal Statistical Office, exports increased by 1.7% vis à vis the comparative month the preceding year.
The individual product groups, however, developed along significantly different lines. In January, by contrast, furniture exports from Germany declined by 1.9%. Accumulated over the first two months, exports were 0.1% above the preceding year’s figure.
Furniture imports, which had decreased in January by 2.7%, increased again in February by 2.6% vis à vis the comparative month last year. Also in the case of imports the decline in January was compensated by increases in February. On an accumulated basis, there was an increase of 0.1% as was also the case with exports. The official export trade figures, which form the basis of the statistics, include all imports and exports recorded for customs purposes, including re-export.
