Gas fields of Balochistan depleting fast, cautions budget document

QUETTA: The gas resources in Balochistan Loti, Pirkoh and Sui have been harnessed for previous 68 years, now to the fullest extent and resources are near to dry, says the White Paper issued by government of Balochistan as part of budget documents.

According to the White paper, “contribution of Balochistan to national economy is to the tune of 180 billion dollars .A caution was given as it said that Sui gas field is depleting fast and its production has declined from 80 to 20 percent.

Making specific reference to the issues in Gas sector and claims of government of Balcohistan, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Finance Mir Khalid Langov in his budget speech said that the province should be compensated for its natural gas resources used in the past and arrears shall be paid on annual or monthly basis directly to Province account by the gas companies and this step could alone save 2 per cent collection charges paid by the government of Balochistan.
