LONDON: Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are the biggest names in the tech world. Both have headed pioneer companies from a very infant stage to the giants that they are today. Bill Gates also shared a strong relation with Jobs and both the legendary figures often spoke for long hours especially in the months when Jobs was seriously ill before his death.

According to a report by Business Insider, Bill Gates recently elaborated on what was different between him and Steve Jobs. He spoke of the difference in mindsets which in a way also explains the philosophical difference between the giant companies.

Bill Gates was quoted saying, “He had an expectation of superlative things in his own work and in the products they would create. Steve had a design mind-set. When I get to a hotel room, I don’t go, ‘Oh, if I had designed this car I would have done this and this.’ People like Jony Ive and Steve Jobs are always looking at stuff that way. You know, I look at code and say, ‘Okay, this is architected well,’ but it’s just a different way of understanding the world. His most natural, innate sense was a world-class instinct about whether this or that object met certain standards. He had extremely high standards of what was shit, and what was not shit.”

The statement has been extracted from a new book called “Becoming Steve Jobs”, which is co-authored by Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli.

Gates emphasises on how Jobs saw things from a designer’s perspective where as he had always analysed things from a coder’s point of view.

Both the companies deal with hardware and software but Apple has a stronger hold in the hardware segment whereas Microsoft is a software giant. The difference noted by Gates has just demonstrated the influence of both the leaders on their respective companies.
