KIEV: Russian gas giant Gazprom has not yet submitted calculations for the price of gas for Naftogaz Ukrainy for the third quarter, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters. Novak said earlier that the price for the second quarter is $177 per 1,000 cubic meters. Russia’s Energy Ministry reckons Ukraine will have to buy about 9 billion cubic meters of gas by the fall and winter period, Novak said.
“I can’t say yet [what the price will be], Gazprom is supposed to provide calculations soon. The purchase of gas will depend on our Ukrainian colleagues. In general, we believe that they can’t do without gas purchases in order to fill underground storage. In total, they need to pump in about 9-10 bcm,” Novak said. “In order to make it through the winter alright, as is known, 17-18 bcm of gas is needed,” Novak said.
