GCCI, NLC ink accord to set up new customs collectorate, dry port near Gujranwala

LAHORE : Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and National Logistics Cell (NLC) have signed an agreement to establish an international standard dry port and customs collectorate near Gujranwala.

Akhlaq Ahmed Butt, chairman of the Dry Port Committee of GCCI, told the media that GCCI would spend Rs 800 million for establishing the dry port and collectorate of customs on 25 acres of land near Rahwali-Gujranwala Cantt. The project would be completed in six months.

Earlier Gujranwala Tax Bar Association President Abid Hafeez Abid demanded that Customs WeBOC system is a land mark software unfortunately we the citizens of Gujranwala cannot fully utilize due to difficult access to the system because of non-availability of any representative office of the customs.

“In true sense, the city is one big industrial hub of the country and there must be a collectorate of customs to resolve the issue of the business community” the GTBA president demanded.

He said that at least a sub office must be set up there for the importers to save their precious time which they spent while travelling to Symbrial, Sialkot which is 50 kilometers away from the city of Gujranwala, the GTBA president stated.

On the GTBA part the bar is striving to set a unit of customs for the resolution of WeBOC and other related issues in collaboration with Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the GTBA president stated.
