JAKARTA: Indonesia’s growth rate will improve in the near future, with its 2016 pace signaling a recovery though at a slower rate than expected, the country’s chief economic minister said on Monday.
“As the budget situation improves, we can also expect improving growth,” minister Darmin Nasution told reporters. Earlier on Monday, Indonesia reported that its gross domestic product grew 5.02 percent in 2016. Annual growth in the final quarter was 4.94 percent, below the forecast in a Reuters poll of 5.07 percent.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the economy requires more balance in sources of growth, adding that private investment still needs to be boosted.
