SYDNEY: Following Microsoft’s acquisition of the ‘Gears of War’ franchise, the company turned over development from Epic Games to the Microsoft-owned Black Tusk Studios. The franchise is clearly an important one for Microsoft and, by the looks of things, wants to exert more control on the future of the franchise and how it relates to the company’s Xbox console.
Xbox Head Phil Spencer commented in an article at Games pot that Black Tusk is making “massive progress” with the Xbox One version of ‘Gears of War’, though he declined to release additional information such as when the game is expected to release.
Spencer did confirm that the game will not be a reboot but will instead focus on what he described as the core of the ‘Gears of War’ franchise. “But we’ve talked about getting back to something, I think the story and the setting and what they’re going through in a Gears of War the name of the game, it really meant something to what that game was about. We’ve got to get back to that. The feeling of those individuals,” he said.
Still, Microsoft clearly has big plans for the ‘Gears of War’ franchise, so an appearance at the year’s biggest gaming convention would hardly be a surprise.
