GEORGIA: As the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats. With the Georgia Ports Authority reporting record tonnage in fiscal year 2015, businesses around the state and metro Atlanta are noticing the lift.
The Ports Authority moved a record 3.66 million 20-foot equivalent container units (TEUs). That tonnage crossing Savannah’s docks constitutes a 17 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year. And this increase is affecting Georgia logistics companies in a major way.

“As the available shipments inevitably grow via the continued expansion of Georgia’s ports, opportunities to service the added volume will present themselves as well,” Tolley said. In addition to the growth of existing service offerings, Tolley said the 3PL climate will create alternative opportunities to cultivate value through harnessing the presumably, and significant, proliferation of data. And as Atlanta continues to reaffirm itself the tech hub of the region, Tolley said he believes the added demand for labor will not just be limited to the transportation and logistics industry.
