Gepco gives defaulters Nov 30 deadline for recovery of Rs 7 billion outstanding dues

SIALKOT: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has finalised the lists of chronic defaulters including the several government departments and has issued them the final notices to recover the outstanding dues of Rs 7 billion by giving them a deadline of November 30, 2014.

According to the senior Gepco officials, the Gepco has given the special recovery targets to the Superintending Engineers (SEs) of all the four Gepco circles to ensure the recovery of the above-mentioned arrears till the deadline ending on November 30, 2014.

They said that the last warning has also been issued to these chronic defaulters including several government departments, private commercial and non commercial organizations, as the Gepco has divided these defaulters into three categories. All the governmental and semi government departments have been placed into A category of the defaulters, the non-payers of the running months’ domestic and commercial electricity bills have been kept in B category, while the old defaulters have been including the C category of the Gepco defaulters.

According to the Gepco Finance Department’s official statistics, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) is defaulter of Gepco of Rs 5 billion, Cantonment Board Sialkot is defaulter of Rs. 4.1 million, Cantonment Board Gujranwala Rs2.6 million, police is defaulter of Rs 7.2 million, Gujranwala Development Authority (GDA) Rs 4.7 million, WASA is defaulter of Rs. 12 million, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Wazirabad is defaulter of Rs 5.3 million and TMA Sialkot is defaulter of Rs 71 million.

Officials added that the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors are also the defaulters of Rs 1.75 billion. Now, the SEs concerned have been given the special tasks of the minimizing line losses besides ensuring the recovery of these outstanding dues in this regard.
