BERLIN: German customs authorities say they have found 257 kilograms (567 pounds) of pure cocaine in a shipment of peanuts from Argentina.
The Hamburg customs office said Thursday that the cocaine, found last month, had a street value of about 16.7 million euros ($17.9 million).
The drugs were packed into nine bags just behind the doors of a container full of peanuts that arrived in the northern German port city. Investigators made the find after being tipped off about several suspect containers from South America.
The container was sent on its way to the Dutch port of Rotterdam via Antwerp, Belgium, without the cocaine.
