German engineering group Siemens interested in urban railway projects in Hanoi

HANOI: German engineering group Siemens AG is interested in urban railway projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, its chief executive officer told a local newswire on Friday.

The urban railway projects under construction in these two big cities have captured the attention of Siemens, which has plans to have long-term investment in the potential Vietnamese market, CEO Joe Kaeser told VietnamPlus in Hanoi.

Siemens has experience in high-speed train technology and management, and is confident it can create difference to bring dwellers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City higher living quality, according to the Hanoi-based newswire. Kaeser said Siemens is totally capable of expanding its investment in such a potential market in Vietnam.

An urban railway project named Cat Linh – Ha Dong is under construction in Hanoi, whereas Ho Chi Minh City is expected to see the completion of its first-ever subway system in five or six years.

He also pledges to carry long-term plans in the healthcare, energy, building technology and even the Internet of Things sectors in the Southeast Asian country, according to VietnamPlus.

Siemens worked with the Vietnamese government on Friday morning, during which the German firm called for government support in using highly-effective and environmental-friendly technology for infrastructure development.

Headquartered in Berlin and Munich, Siemens is the largest engineering company in Europe. It is a market and innovation leader in the fields of power and gas, energy management, power generation services, mobility, building technologies, digital factory, process and drives as well as in healthcare. The German firm first entered Vietnam by the installation and supply of two industrial steam turbines at the Bai Bang Paper Mill in the northern province of Phu Tho.

The company established its representative office in 1993 and turned into limited company in 2002, which marked the most significant and far-reaching steps in its history in Vietnam, according to the Siemens Vietnam website. During several decades, Siemens has successfully participated in numerous Vietnam’s infrastructure projects.
