GIDC collection challenged in LHC

LAHORE: Consumers challenged in Lahore high court Rs 11 billion collections on gas and electricity bills with reference to Gas Infrastructure Development Cess GIDC.

The application filed by chairman Judicial Activism Panel Advocate Azhar Saddique argued that the federal government collected Rs 11 billion from poor citizens as Gas Infrastructure Development Cess and receive 72 paisas in surcharge. He further argued that under GIDC act 2015(4), the federal government receiving taxes from 2011 in development of Pak Iran Gas Pipeline, Pakistan Afghanistan and Turkmenistan gas pipeline and LNG but work so far has not been started on these projects and Rs 196 million are spent without any production.

The applications says that the collection by the federal government violates GIDC act 2015 and article of constitution of Pakistan article 9 and 14. The prayed to Court to declare this collection as null and void.

The judge of Lahore High Court, Justice Shahid Mubeen, will hear the case on July 13, 2015.
