GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has announced to impose an environment tax on the transporters, who would use the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman, while talking to media, said that the environment tax would help boost the provincial revenue. He also announced to introduce laws for this purpose. He added that the revenue would be spent on environmental rehabilitation.
Another provincial official said that the details of how to impose this tax will be sorted out with the help of legal and environmental experts. Environmentalists have said that the mountainous region will suffer due to increase in vehicular traffic after the completion of the project.
