WASHINGTON: There will be an estimated 54 million DIY motherboards shipped globally in 2015, decreasing 21.7% on year, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology, the two largest vendors, will each ship 17.1-17.5 million DIY motherboards, slipping less than 10% on year, the sources said. However, Asustek and Gigabyte will see profitability for DIY motherboards remain unchanged due to high proportions of mid-range and high-end models, the sources indicated.

ASRock and Micro-Star International each will ship five million units, dropping over 20% and 10-15% respectively, the sources said. Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Biostar Microtech International will ship 2.5 million units each, with the former to phase out DIY motherboard business and the latter to suffer operating loss, the sources indicated.

Colorful Technology and Development, the largest of China-based vendors, has focused on the China market and will ship 2.2 million DIY motherboards, the sources said.

Colorful is expected to suffer operating loss from DIY motherboard business due to a high shipment proportion for low-end models, the sources indicated. Other China-based vendors, including Onda, Maxsun, SUPoX and Yeston, are expected to suffer operating losses from DIY motherboard businesses.
