LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Livestock & Dairy Development Asif Saeed Manais on Monday said Punjab Halal Development Agency (PHDA) had been termed a step towards a developing and projecting Pakistanis Halal hub by opening new vistas for entering the global Halal market while serving the domestic consumer market.
He stated this on the occasion of the 6th International Halal Conference and Exhibition 2017. Chairman PHDA Justice Khalil-Ur-Rehman Ramday, Dr. Hamid, International Halal Trade, Dr. Abdul Karim Bhatti from Pakistan Poultry and Livestock, Haji Abdul Malik Kassian, Minister for Trade and Religious Affairs Malaysia, Yasin Zulfiqar Oglu Turkey were also present.
He said the PHDA was providing a platform for the private sector to be the part of the conference. It was significantly contributing towards national economy through production of balanced food for human population and provision of employment to thousands of people, the Minister said and added that Global Halal Market had reached $ 2 trillion of which 700 billion US Dollars was in the Muslim world.
Today, he said, the leading countries exporting Halal brands were non Muslims, such as Brazil, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France Thailand and India. Pakistan took only a minor share of huge export potential owing to lack of legal and recognized authority at the national level dealing with the sector, he added.He said awareness for Halal products in non Muslims population had also increased as the word “Halal” had become a symbol of healthy wholesome and hygienic products.
Asif Saeed said that the international conference of Halal Development Agency provided platform to the produces, manufacturers and traders of Halal food and non food articles and processes to establish linkages.
He said that this platform would be helpful to demonstrate the potential of Pakistan and would result in increasing volume of export of Pakistani products.
