NEW YORK: Global port equipment body PEMA has signed an MoU with the European private terminal operators group FEPORT to mark the strengthening of their co-operation.
The MoU will create a co-operation framework that will enable PEMA and FEPORT to benefit from common activities in their respective strategies. The hope expressed by the two organisations is that this will further mutual understanding and identify areas of joint interest where closer co-operation is feasible.
Such a programme of co-operation would include agreed actions and initiatives, including bilateral meetings, sharing, and exchanging information, and ad hoc task forces to enhance their impact on issues and topics where both organisations have common interest.
“Our mission is to provide a forum and public voice for the global port equipment and technology sectors, reflecting their critical role in enabling safe, secure, sustainable and productive ports and thereby supporting world maritime trade,” commented Mr Ottonel Popesco, president of the Board of PEMA and CEO of power equipment manufacturer Cavotec.
“By entering into this co-operation with FEPORT, we will be able to better serve our respective members and the industry as a whole,” he continued.
“The port sector is facing important challenges that will require port stakeholders to mobilise all kinds of resources – HR, R&D, and financial – to adapt and also prepare the future. Within FEPORT, we think that a close co-operation with PEMA will allow us to better respond to the market’s expectations and to identify the major areas that require innovation,” said FEPORT president Gunther Bonz.
