Global shipments of 48- to 50-inch TV panels in May 2015 reached 3.31 million, up 16% on year, according to a new report from Sigmaintell Consulting.
TV panels sized 48-inch reached 1.26 million in shipments to hold a 38% share of the total shipment figure, which represents flat growth on year. TV panels sized 49-inch held a 23% share with 750,000 shipments, representing 98% on-year growth, while 50-inch TV panel shipments reach 1.29 million to hold a 39% share, which the firm noted represents an on-year decline.
LG Display was one of the first panel makers to start production of 49-inch TV panels back in 2013, providing China-based Hisense with the technology, the firm said.
For the second quarter of 2015, 49-inch TV panels held a 24% share of 48- to 50-inch TV panels shipped, the firm added.
