ABU DHABI: The air intelligence unit (AIU) of Goa customs thwarted a gold smuggling attempt at Dabolim airport by seizing six gold bars weighing a kilo each and valued at over Rs1.51 crore from the rear toilet of an Air India Dubai-Mumbai-Goa flight. The officers rummaged through the flight following intelligence inputs.
A customs officer said no one has been arrested as the bars were an unclaimed seizure. Further investigations are under way.
The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of customs commissioner K Anpazhakan. The team comprised of S K Sinha, joint commissioner, S C Jain, assistant commissioner, S K Singh, superintendent, Sandeep, Mayank Varshney and Deepak Chaudhary.
