Gold smuggling case: Customs Court grants pre-arrest bail to suspect

KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling granted pre-arrest bail to a suspect in gold smuggling case. Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has approved bail for suspect Shahzad Ahmed with surety bonds of Rs 200,000.

Advocate Muhammad Asif Khan moved the bail application on behalf of the accused, requesting the court to order release of his client on bail as the same concession was given to other accused in similar cases.

According to the prosecution, on September 1, 2015 the customs authorities seized 1350 gram assorted jewellery worth estimated at Rs 5 million from the baggage of a passenger at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.

Suspect Shahzad Ahmed was caught at Green Channel of the airport. The suspect concealed the jewellery in two emergency lights and an electric fan.
