LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has asked the investigation team of Pakistan Customs to complete the investigation challan of the case of 14-kg gold smuggling in 14 days.
Earlier in the beginning of the week, customs court had also directed the investigation team to present the record in the next hearing. But on Thursday customs team didn’t present the investigation challan of the case. The Customs Court strictly directed the IO to present the challan in 14 days in every condition.
Earlier, the court had extended a 14-day judicial remand of accused Muhammad Riaz in a notorious case of 14 kilogram of gold smuggling.
Accused Muhammad Riaz was arrested by the customs authorities after the rejection of a pre-arrest bail plea by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Accused Muhammad Riaz is the main accused in smuggling of huge quantity of gold into Dubai.
Earlier, it may be recalled that the customs authorities had also arrested two female suspects involved in smuggling of 14-kg gold and foreign currencies from the Multan International Airport.
Both females were wearing 14-kg gold in forms of bangles and anklets. They were also possessing 39,000 Saudi Riyal and UAE Dirham. The value of the seized currencies in Pakistani rupees was Rs64.6million.
Accused Muhammad Riaz was in custody of customs investigation on physical remand. At the start of the month, he was produced before the court of Masood Arshad from where he was sent to jail for judicial trial.
Another accused Mazhar Hussain is still at large.
