NEW YORK: Hinting at the forthcoming launch of the Google ‘Buy’ button, the company’s Chief Business Officer Omid Kordestani said during the Code Conference on Wednesday that the new feature will be the next big thing to be introduced by Google.

A Google spokeswoman also confirmed through an email to PCMag that the company has already started working on a project that aims at enabling users to make their purchases directly from Google ads.

“We’re focused on connecting retailers to consumers across screens, and reducing the friction involved in finding and purchasing products. To simplify purchasing on mobile devices, we’re working with retailers to improve their app and mobile Web experiences”, said the spokeswoman.

It’s a brilliant strategy to rid friction and encourage people to increasingly go for online purchases. The Web was used as a medium to report news on Buy button two weeks ago, revealing to show ads based on search results, but only on sponsored links. The Buy button is initially planned for mobile users and its success could eventually lead its extension to computers and laptops as well.

Retailers have expressed concerns over roll out of Google’s Buy button, thinking that it would reduce traffic to their online stores. However, Google is expected to allow merchants to gather data from Google-based shoppers.

Payments will be independently handled by Google, including storage of users’ credit card and other payment information and paying to retailers only as per the transacted amount.

Users will not be able to see Buy buttons on non-sponsored results that are powered only by Google’s own search algorithm. Google’s Buy button has resulted from the uptrend in mobile searches.

Last year, Google also witnessed double the rise in number queries of users looking for something.
