Google verifies YouTube users not be able to access platform’s Collections feature from May 20

NEW YORK: Google verifies that YouTube users will not be able to access the platform’s Collections feature from May 20. Collections allow users to group their different subscriptions into categories. Those with a ton of subscriptions to various channels utilize this feature to basically place everything neatly in order. This allows them to quickly access whatever they are interested in.

As an example, users interested in music can create a music collection to store all of their subscriptions. Those on the lookout for reviews and also create a similar category, or go a step further and create specialized versions, such as Hardware Reviews Collection, or Video Games Reviews Collection.

Other advantages of Collections over maintaining individual subscriptions on YouTube include:

Subscriptions can be sorted thematically.

It reduces the length of the list when you display your subscription using the menu on YouTube.

Collections can be loaded and display only videos of channels that you have added to individual collections.

Users who open their collection page on YouTube right now will be met with the following notification on top: “On 5/20/15 we’ll discontinue collections, as we’ll focus on other efforts to make your subscriptions even more enjoyable.”

Google has not stated what it plans to do with its removal. Perhaps there’s a new feature that will incorporate this, and other aspects, and which will be released in the future.

It’s most likely that following May 20, all Collections will be removed from YouTube. Unless Google allows existing users to keep their existing Collections untouched.
