Google’s Valentine’s Day gift: $6 google play credit for Chromecast owners

NEW YORK: Google is giving Valentine gift to Chromecast owners by offering $6 worth of credit. This can be used to pick a movie or two from Google Play which they can enjoy watching on Valentine’s Day. Residents from the UK are getting it for £5.

Chromecast owners can claim the special offer from the Google website. When checking it out, owners should make sure that they are on the same Wi-Fi network as their Chromecast and that they have turned on their dongle. In the next stage, they can start choosing which movie or movies they would like to rent and watch with their date on Valentine’s Day.

And, yes, owners will want to have that as well (if they are otherwise a big Firefox or Internet Explorer fan). From there, head on over to Google’s Chromecast Offers page. Once owners agree to the terms, Google will ask them to select their Chromecast device in order to see all the offers they can partake in—which means owners will want to have already set their Chromecast up on Wi-Fi network prior to this point (which we’re assuming they did).

When they do, they will briefly see a little congratulations message appear on their TV (if it’s tuned to the HDMI source that Chromecast is installed into). Users will be picking the actual offers on their Chrome browser, and up in the upper-left corner should be the Google Play offer that tells them to “Enjoy a Valentine’s Day movie rental with a $6 Google Play credit.” Click on the “Redeem” button and poof—free money.

It is not exactly announced why Google is tossing out this free cash, as there isn’t really any other promotional effort tied to the marketing push. Perhaps Google is just really keen to have everyone’s Chomecast devices connected online (and sharing their device ID with Google). That, or maybe Google just wants to send a little love users way for being a loyal Chromecast user. Either way, we don’t mind contemplating while we’re all cuddled up on the couch with our Chromecast come February 14—perhaps Google can send some chocolates over, too
