Government submits answer in LHC on tax amnesty scheme

LAHORE: The federal government has submitted answer in Lahore High Court (LHC) about the tax amnesty scheme. The representative of Federal Government informed that tax amnesty scheme was introduced to increase tax net and for registered traders as taxpayers.

On Wednesday, Federal Government presented answer before Justice Shahid Jameel Khan in case filed by the Advocate Shiraz Zaka. The tax amnesty scheme was challenged by the advocate of Lahore High Court (LHC) Shiraz Zaka in the (LHC).

In the written answer, the Federal Government argued that tax amnesty scheme was introduced for those traders who did not filed the tax returns in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from last ten years and federal government has decided to expand tax net to those traders through tax amnesty scheme for huge tax collection.

On the other side the appellant Shiraz Zaka raised point that the tax amnesty scheme only for traders in discrimination with the business community. Added more tax amnesty scheme is a source to white black money.

Appellant prayed that court may null and void that tax amnesty scheme. After hearing the arguments from appellant and written answer by the federal government Lahore high Court (LHC) has called the federal government for arguments on next date of hearing.
