Governor warns against delay in Fata development projects

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakthunkhkwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Wednesday warned the authorities concerned against the delay in development projects in Fata.

While expressing great dismay over delay of construction works of Kurram-Thangi and Mohmand Hydro power projects, the governor categorically stated that unnecessary delay in construction of these multi faceted development project were not acceptable. He expressed these views while presiding over a high-level meeting to review ongoing projects in Fata.

Chief Minister Pevez Khattak, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Provincial Minister for Mineral Development Anisa Zaib and Information Advisor Mushtaq Ghani, Additional Chief Secretary Fata Aslam Kamboh, Wapda Chairman Shakeel Durrani, FWO Director General Maj Gen Muhammad Afzal, National Highway Authority Chairman Shahid Ashraf besides other senior offices were also present on the occasion.

The governor said the problems of tribal people increased besides creating sense of deprivation among them. He said such kinds of attitudes not only enhances cost of the projects but also discourage foreign donors agencies to make investment.

Sardar Mehtab pointed out that completion of Kurram-Thangi dam would not only generate 84 megawatt electricity but irrigate about 0.3 million acres land. Similarly, 800 megawatt electricity would be produced by Mohmand dam hydropower project besides 170,000 acres land upon completion.

The governor said these kinds of projects would not only accelerate economic activities in Fata and KP besides expediting process of economic development in tribal areas and leads to prosperity of tribal people.
