KARACHI: Pakistan Tannery Association Chairman Hamid Zahoor, Vice Chairman Amir Majeed and former chairman Gulzar Feroze have said that increase in gas tariff will affect the export of leather products.
Hamid told Customs Today that “it has become very difficult for the businessmen to compete with China, India, Bangladesh and Vietnam. He said that the governments in other countries facilitate leather industry, but the businessmen in Pakistan are facing shortage of gas and electricity. He also said that the government has stopped water supply to tanneries for the last many years while security situation is also not satisfactory.
The chairman said that the export of leather not only earns foreign exchange but also provides jobs to the people. They said that the government must pay special attention to leather industry for three years.
