ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan is going to retire on January 17, 2017. Who will be the new head of the revenue authority is a big question now and is being discussed in the FBR at every level because board is already facing big challenges regarding collection of revenues and present chairman is going to retire in less than a month.

Sources told Customs Today that government is also considering a few names for the new chairman. The names included Tariq Pasha, an officer of the Inland Revenue, Secretary Commerce Azmat Ranjha and Secretary Establishment Tahir Shahbaz. Another official Seerat Raana is also in the line.

Sources said that it was expected that grade 22 Member Operations Dr.  Irshad will be a new chairman but he is also retiring in April 2017. Member Human Resource Management Rozi Khan Burki is also grade 22 officer and belongs to Customs Group. In those names an officer of Inland Revenue service Tariq Pasha is a strong candidate and right now he is working with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the Ministry of Finance.

Secretary Commerce Azmat Ranjah and Secretary Establishment Tahir Shahbaz are also strong candidates but they are from District Management Group. It is expected that more names can come up for this seat in coming days. But at the present stage, FBR is facing more than Rs 200 billion revenue shortfall and no officer from outside the organization would be able to meet the challenge.
