Govt decides to start Pakistan Glacier Monitoring Network

ISLAMABAD: Government has been decided to allocate more than Rs177 billion for the water sector in the budget of the next financial year. The government has also decided to start work on the Pakistan Glacier Monitoring Network project and funds of Rs200 million have been proposed for the project.

According to details, preparations are being made to allocate over Rs177 billion for water resources in the next budget. Government has decided to start 13 projects to generate cheap electricity from water and allocation of more than Rs114 billion for these projects has been proposed.

According to the budget documents, it has been proposed to allocate Rs632 billion for 82 ongoing water resources improvement projects while Rs16 billion will be reserved for the construction of Dia Mir Bhasha Dam.

According to the document, allocation of Rs2.5 billion for the Kachhi Canal project in Dera Bugti has been proposed. On the other hand, allocation of over Rs80 billion is being considered for the first phase of Dasu Hydropower Project, Rs990 million for Golen Gol hydropower project and Rs1.35 billion for 128 MW Khayal Khawar hydropower project.
