ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry has directed mobile phone companies to re-verify around 140 million SIMs through the newly-inducted biometric verification system (BVS) within 28 days and block all unverified connections after the given deadline, sources in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) revealed.

In this regard, a meeting attended by all the five telecom operators was held at the PTA headquarters. The PTA told the mobile phone companies about the plan of the Interior Ministry to which the cell phone companies said the deadline of 28 days was impossible to meet.
