Govt earmarks Rs 400b for power projects

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allocated over Rs 400 billion for various power projects in the country under the Annual Development Plan 2016-17.

Over 5,000 megawatts electricity would be added to the national grid by the end of next year, reported Radio Pakistan. Furthermore, energy projects being implemented under China Pakistan Economic Corridor would add over ten thousand megawatts of electricity through coal, hydro and wind power projects by 2018 in the IPP mode.

Work on different projects including Neelum-Jhelum, Dasu hydro-power project and Tarbela dam extension project is also in full swing.

Thermal projects of four thousand and twenty mega watts in the public sector are also underway. Electricity supply to seven thousand and ninety two villages is also part of Annual Development Plan.
