Government increases tax rate on cigarettes

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue has increased the tax rate on cigarettes.

According to details, the Federal Board of Revenue has increased the tax rate on cigarette per pack, due to which tax rate on pack of 20 cigarettes has increased to 7.96 percent.

Moreover, during the previous fiscal year, tax to the tune of Rs 21.70 was imposed on every cigarette pack that cost less than Rs 54, while during the current fiscal year’s budget, only 4.7 percent tax was imposed on cigarette packs retailing low.

The FBR has imposed Rs 26.4 tax on cigarette packs having cost of less than Rs 67, while imposed Rs 60.6 tax on packs having cost of more than Rs 67. Now, the FBR has increased tax rate on upper cigarette pack to 7.96 percent.

It is important to mention here that sales tax on cigarettes is not included in this tax.
