Govt introduces public-driven model for area development projects

ISLAMABAD: Now citizens have been given the right to suggest development schemes for their areas.

As per new guidelines issued by the federal government for provinces, at least 10 residents of any area will together suggest development projects for their area, costing between Rs2.5 million and Rs100 million.

They will also be able to submit an application to the deputy commissioner of their district for the initiation of work on a scheme.

Projects related to health, education, the construction of roads, and drainage system will be given a priority in Punjab.

Similarly, projects related to the construction of streets and bridges, supply of gas and electricity and upgradation of solar systems and transformers will also be part of the programme.

Cemetries, playgrounds, places of worship and parks will also be eligible to receive funding.
