Govt likely to dissolve all customs, tax tribunals

LAHORE: The government is all set to dissolve Customs and tax tribunal and establish a larger tax court under the headship of retired judges of the supreme court of Pakistan and high courts, a source said.

As per details, it has been decided that all the tax tribunals including customs and tax insurance, environmental and other will be dissolved and a new larger tax court will be set to decide tax related matters and others.

The Tax Court will be supervised by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and high courts’ retired judges while the office of chairman will be eliminated.

It has been informed that the judicial members will be transferred to some other departments while new judges will be recruited.

It is said that the process will start from the first week of December this year while the dissolution of the tribunals has become a hot topic among the employees of tribunals and Federal Board of Revenue.
