Govt maintains decision to import 1 million tons of wheat to meet national needs

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Steering Committee on Wheat was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar today.

During the meeting, the decision to import 1 million tons of wheat to meet national requirements was maintained.

Officials clarified that the wheat import aims to reduce market price pressure and provide relief to the public.

The Steering Committee reviewed the availability of wheat and the challenges faced in light of provincial demands and requirements.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar instructed authorities to ensure the uninterrupted supply of wheat across the country.

He also directed officials to control flour prices and provide maximum relief to the common man through the timely import of 1 million tons of wheat.

Senior officials from the Ministry of National Food Security, Ministry of Commerce, and the provincial governments of Sindh and Punjab attended the meeting.
