ISLAMABAD: A capable, motivated and professional bureaucracy has played an instrumental role in economic growth and overall prosperity in many countries and civil officers in Pakistan should facilitate private sector in promoting business activities by resolving its key issues that would help in accelerating economic growth of the country.
This was said by Ahmed Hassan Moughal, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry while addressing a delegation of 36 under-training civil officers of 46th Common Training Program (CTP) that visited ICCI led by Ms. Ayesha Zareen, Additional Director, Civil Service Academy, Lahore. The officers were representing various cadres of civil service including Commerce & Trade, Administration, Foreign Service, Inland Revenue, Pakistan Customs, Police and Pakistan Audit & Accounts.
Ahmed Hassan Moughal said that civil officers have important role in implementing the economic agenda of the government and their cooperative role with private sector would be helpful in steering the country of current challenges and putting it on the path of sustainable economic growth. He emphasized that when trainee civil officers would take over their responsibilities in various departments of federal and provincial governments, they should play positive role in making timely decision and resolving key issues of business community to improve ease of doing business in the country.
ICCI President said that Pakistan badly needed good governance to become a competitive economy in the world and stressed that civil officers should promote good governance by adopting the principles of integrity, honesty, hard work and commitment to the supreme interests of the country. He also briefed the under-training civil officers about the role and responsibilities of chambers of commerce in economic development of the country.
Speaking at the occasion, Ms. Ayesha Zareen, Additional Director, Civil Service Academy, Lahore said that about 270 civil officers were under training in the 46th Common Training Program (CTP) and the purpose of taking them to various public and private sector organizations was to enable them to get an understanding of the working of such organizations.
She said the aim of the CTP was to transform the college students into civil servants and to enable them to perform their duties professionally. She thanked ICCI for hosting the under-training officers and hoped that their interaction with business community would be helpful for them in understanding the dynamics of business and economy and how they could facilitate in resolving the issues of business community.
