Govt organising competition among Kinnow growers

ISLAMABAD: On the directives of Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, the ministry is organising a competition of kinnow growers in order to encourage them as well as to enhance the exports.

An official in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research on Wednesday said that the event would help to enhance the quality and standard of the product to increase its exports.

The event would also promote the use of best harvesting practices, to prevent post harvest losses and to enhance the shelve life of kinnows as well as to adopt best international standards of safety and security.

The committee, headed by Deputy Food Security Commissioner, has also been formed which would inspect the orchards and declare top three orchards as per international standards. The winners would be awarded with special cash prizes and they would also receive incentives from the government to further promote and develop their crop on modern lines to enhance their productions as well as exports.

The ministry has asked the kinnow growers to submit applications with attested copy of their national identity card to the Director, Citrus Research Institute, Sargodha.

The last date for submission of applications is February 2, 2016 where as the ministry has assigned the Deputy Food Commissioner to provide other details to kinnow farmers.
