Govt reduces power tariff for agri sector by Rs3.50/unit

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decreased power tariff for agriculture sector by Rs3.50 per unit till June 30, 2017.

The government also announced the resumption of zero-loadshedding for the industrial sector after Eid. According to a notification, issued by the Ministry of Water and Power, the reduced power tariff will be available to the agriculture sector throughout the country except Balochistan.

Power consumers in the agriculture sector will now be charged Rs5.35 per unit in off peak hours instead of current Rs8.85 per unit. However, there will be no change in the peak hour per unit rate and it will stay at Rs10.35 per unit.

The notification further says that the difference between National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (Nepra) tariff and subsidised tariff for peak and off peak hours will be budgeted as tariff differential subsidy to be borne by the federal government.
