ISLAMABAD: Rahim Yar Khan (RYK) Chamber of Commerce President Sheikh Ammaduddin has said that he is opposing the tax amnesty scheme announced by the government. Instead, he said that the government should reduce gas and electricity tariffs for industrial sector. He said the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) should play a role to facilitate the business community.
During an exclusive interview with Customs Today, he said that the government should announce facilities and privileges for those who voluntarily become taxpayers. The government should also announce concessions in fee structure for the children of voluntary taxpayers as well as they be given discount in air and railways fares.
He said if both seller and buyers are NTN holders, then 15 percent sales tax should be applied on them instead of 17 percent.
He said that tax net could be expanded by announcing relief package for new taxpayers. He also suggested that some concessions must be announced for the people who regularly pay taxes. He said, “We are opposing the tax amnesty scheme because some people would become taxpayers by showing little amount. Therefore, there must be some difference between a regular tax payer and a new tax payer.
He appealed to the prime minister to personally intervene in this matter and announce to provide gas and electricity to industries on the same rate which are applied in India and Bangladesh. He urged FBR to revisit their policies. He expressed the fears that government will not get the desired results of tax amnesty scheme, so to avoid this government FBR should enhance their interational with business community from intial stage.
