ISLAMABAD: In bid to avoid imports and to control prices of veterinary drugs, the government is striving to ensure local manufacturing of drugs.
The Ministry of National Health Services claims manufacturing of about 70 per cent of veterinary drugs at local level.
The local manufacturing of veterinary drugs is generally encouraged by facilitating processing of drug registration application. Sources at the ministry said that in particular drug registration application for new manufacturing licenses/new sections are processed on priority.
The sources said all veterinary producer and sellers are encouraged to observe good manufacturing and storage practices for maintaining quality of veterinary drugs and added as a result of encouragement, almost 70pc of registered veterinary drugs are manufactured locally.
Highlighting the steps taken by the government to improve production of veterinary drugs in the country, the sources said DRAP Act, 2012, which is new legislation, encourages local production of medicines including veterinary medicines and vaccines.
