LAHORE: The Punjab government is trying its best to provide the latest technology and advanced equipment at the doorsteps of farmers.
This was stated by Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed, while talking to the state-owned news agency, APP. He urged farmers to reap fruits of the latest agriculture research to obtain high yield. Talking to APP on Wednesday, he said the govt was taking every possible step to promote the agriculture sector while a subsidy of Rs 17b was being offered.
“We are striving to educate the farming community as research will be useless if it does not reach farmers,” he added. He said the government was giving significant priority to the promotion of agriculture, livestock and oil seeds sectors. He said Punjab was considered as food basket, the latest machineries were being imported to double the agri output.
The minister said, under the directive of the chief minister Punjab agriculture research had been given modern shape and now our research was aiming at discovery and interpretation of facts relating to our own realities and requirements. He said the country was largely dependent on agricultural economy and it was time to shift agriculture on modern trends.
