KHATMANDU: The government has begun the process for feasibility study of nine infrastructure-related projects in different parts of the country.

With a plan to conduct a joint study of nine projects related to bridges, roads and a tunnel, Department of Roads (DoR) has finalised the consultant hiring process. The DoR is gearing up to initiate the study process under Rs 200 million loan assistance from Asian Development Bank (ADB), with an aim to complete it within a year-and-a-half from the date of agreement signing with the consultant.
“We plan to sign contract with the selected consultant — Korea Engineering Consulting Corporation (KECC) — next week,” said Keshav Kumar Sharma, director of ADB Project Directorate at DoR.
The total compact study programme includes six roads, a tunnel and four bridges across the country. The consultant will submit the feasibility report and detailed designs of all the projects to DoR within the set deadline.
The government has emphasised construction of an alternative route of Mugling-Narayangadh Road — one of the busiest road sections in the country. As per Sharma, DoR has planned to construct a parallel road on right bank of Trishuli River that would connect Mugling and Gaindakot.
Similarly, the government plans to study the feasibility of Malekhu-Bhandara Road and its alternative as Malekhu-Bhandara Tunnel. The track of the Malekhu-Bhandara rural road has already been opened, and the government is planning to upgrade it. “The government will chose an appropriate option — either the road or the tunnel — in this section,” Sharma informed.
Kanchanpur-Pakali Road, Kamala-Kanchanpur Road, Dumre-Beshishar Road and Mirchaiya-Katari-Ghurmi Road projects are also in the list for the study. Likewise, bridges on the Koshi and the Triyuga Rivers have been listed as a single project and bridges on the Madi and the Seti Rivers have been included as a single project.
In this phase, the consultant will submit the feasibility report and designs of the projects.
