Govt to add two million new taxpayers in FY 2015-16

LAHORE: The government has planned a strategy to bring more people into tax net during the financial year 2015-16. According to estimates, at least two million new taxpayers will be included in the system.

Source told Customs Today that during 2005-6, the tax to GDP ratio was 8.7 percent, which was increased to 9.5 percent in 2014-15.

Source also said that during previous 10 years, the tax to GDP ratio has increase only 0.8 percent. During the tenure of President Pervaiz Musharraf, the tax to GDP ratio remain between 7.5 percent and 8.5 percent.

In the tenure of President Asif ali Zardari, the tax to GDP ratio remain within 7 to 8.3 percent and during previous two years of the Pakistan Muslim League-N  government, little improvement has been seen in tax to GDP ratio, In year 2013-14, the tax to GDP ratio stands nine percent and in 2014-15, the ratio has been calculated at 9.5 percent.

According to Planning Commission estimates till 2017-18 the tax to GDP percentage in Pakistan will be 12 to 13 percent.
