ISLAMABAD: The government will install 1000MW solar plants at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, while 300MW of solar plants had already been installed there.

This was stated by Minister of State for Board of Investment Dr Miftah Ismail during a meeting with the ex PEMRA chairman Mushtaq Malik and French Company ENGIE CEO Raphael Colas.

Miftah said the government was going to announce a policy on solar projects in a few days to clarify many things regarding it. It was decided in the meeting that wind would be taken from Sindh, as the province had this energy in abundance due to its coastal areas, while the solar power would be procured from Punjab. It was also agreed that issues like grid capacity and transmission line would be addressed soon.

Colas said on the occasion that ENGIE was the second largest electricity producer company. “Our staff is already working in India, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt and Abu Dhabi etc, and they are very much willing to install solar plants in Punjab,” he added.

“The next tariff for power generation is going to be cheaper,” the minister said, adding, “There are many companies, national and international, which are willing to invest in alternative energy, especially in solar energy in Pakistan.”
