Govt to launch automated system for rebate claims, duty drawbacks

ISLAMABAD: Keeping in view the ever-increasing volume of rebate claims amid worries of exporters, the government following the new export policy has decided to develop an automated system for payment of customs rebate and drawback of local taxes and levy (DLTL).

According to media, under the new system, the State Bank of Pakistan will automatically pay duty drawback and DLTL to exporters through software without human involvement.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad the other day to review the proposals for the facilitation of export-oriented sectors, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has said the government is committed to providing ease with maximum degree of automation and transparency to the exporters.

The finance adviser directed the Ministry of Commerce to hold further discussions with all stakeholders and prepare draft proposals for making an effective policy for increasing the volume of exports from the country. He said all possible cooperation in the matter would be provided by the Ministry of Finance and the needful will be done in the next budget.
