Govt to promote domestic trade: Asim Tiwana

HYDERABAD: Director Domestic Trade Wing of Federal Commerce Ministry M. Asim Tiwana Thursday said the federal government in cooperation with provincial government intend to promote domestic trade to give maximum benefits to bussinessmen of their produces.

According to a press release, he expressed remarks while talking to office bearers of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here at HCCI Secretariat.

He informed that a number of developed countries like America, China and Japan had introduced fruitful reforms to promote the domestic trades and the federal ministry of commerce wanted to introduce the same for the benefits of the business community of the country.

In this direction, he informed that the ministry will convene a meeting of all concerned departments within a month to prepare recommendations which will be communicated to provincial government including Sindh Government so that the same could be implemented for development of trade and industry in the province. He also invited the HCCI office bearers to submit their recommendations so that the same could be brought under discussion in the meeting.

The Senior Vice President HCCI Turab Ali Khoja and Vice President Ziauddin briefed him about the bottlenecks being experienced by the business community of Hyderabad in domestic trade and manufacturing exports.

They informed that sales tax registration was essential for export business but the business community of Hyderabad also facing difficulties in sales tax registration, Weboc, tax refunding, business financing, and harassment from labour department as well as deteriorated infrastructure and non availability of basic facilities.

They informed that due to high tariff of gas and electricity, the cost of production has been increased and the business community is in difficult position to sale out their produces.

The business community of Hyderabad is not being invited for participation in international trade exhibitions which is also a major hurdle in export of produces of Hyderabad. They further informed that the business community of Hyderabad also facing difficulties in export of agriculture produces because of having no air port.

They were opined that withdrawal of double taxation system could help in bringing improving in the trade sector and hoped that the government would realize the problems being faced by the business community of Hyderabad.

Among others, Sallahuddin Abbasi, Zulfiqar Ali Chohan, Iqbal Hussain Baig, Masood Baig, Muhammad Shakir Memon and Mazharul Haq were also present on the occasion.
